SpoCom – Yes, I’m late on this

Spocom is a fairly new event. Only running for 3 years now, but ever since it’s conception, it has been a premier event for enthusiasts in our scene. The thoughts of prize money and a custom one off trophy will hold down  for only so long. First 2 years were perfect. It had the perfect amount of cars and the right amount of vendors for everyone to enjoy. The performances and bikini contests helped as well. It also didn’t have the loud noises and random music that all the other shows had and allowed attendee’s to talk to vendors without having to yell. But this year, that all changed. So let’s start with the good stuff shall we!

Overall the show was fun and eventful. As usual, Spocom’s screening process allowed only the finest cars and teams to come out. Almost every car out there represented there category, all wanting a piece of that cash money. We, of course, brought out almost all of the VIP cars that could come to the show. We showed  how Autofashion does VIP. It showed, cause by the end of the show we came out 3 out of 4 trophies strong. But this is also, where it got bad.

On Spocom’s site it says the following,” SpoCom is 110% committed to providing you, the car show competitor, the best possible competition standards in the industry.

During the off season we personally spoke to several teams, and competitors.  We asked you for feedback and advice on how we could improve our existing judging format.  Everyone we spoke to wanted to find a better judging system and a higher standard for competition.  SpoCom was now faced with the challenge of finding an antidote to your suggestions.  After an exhausting search we have found the cure.

SpoCom is pleased to announce we have found a new third party independent judging organization I.A.S.A. (International Automotive Show Association).  The I.A.S.A. is committed to providing the highest quality of judging without any political implications or biased attached. The I.A.S.A.’s mission along with SpoCom’s is to provide the highest level of independent judging in the world.  I.A.S.A., and SpoCom have collaborated and developed a new hybrid judging system. ” This right here, is what completely ruined Spocom for myself and tons of others.

Why did it ruin the event for myself along with most others? Because by the end of the show, people that should of won trophies didn’t. Sure, that makes me sound bitter, but in all honesty, it’s exactly what happened. In every category, when the classes were announced people had confused looks on their faces.  It’s bad, when the judges have no clue what they’re judging and asking you to compare yourself to another car so they don’t have to “work” to see why this car should be better than the others. So many errors and hearing from people that worked for the show saying “We fucked up” is never a good thing.

In general, congrats to the “winners” of the show. We’ll see what happens when Spocom comes around next year. Will people come again and support the show or will they not come. Only time will tell.
